THE “SHUT
DOWN” STORY
Each participant is encouraged to look back in
their life to the time when they may have been “shut down” around singing and share from
the heart. This frees the painful experience and allows participants to
begin expressing themselves more freely. It’s a new beginning – a
healing.
VOCAL RANGE
Each student is helped to discover their natural range, whether Soprano,
Alto, Tenor, or Bass. After doing so, each song can be transposed into
their own range.
THE WORKSHOP STOPPER
At any point during a workshop, no matter what is
happening, participants can yell out “WORKSHOP STOPPER”. A
microphone is given to them and it is their opportunity to express themselves
vocally.
THE WORKING MUSICAL LUNCH
Each student brings a bag lunch and during lunch break, they are split
up into teams. Captains lead teams though a series of sharing and vocal
exercises.
VOCAL EXCERCISES:
- Affirmation chant: “I am a singer” – used
as workshop mantra to help students believe they ARE singers.
- Throat Chakra Healing Ceremony frees up and heals the “singing
chakra.”
- The Roaring Lion is an old Yogic technique that heals the throat chakra.
After focusing energy into their third eye and throat chakra, a loud roar
is made while looking at the tip of your nose. A series of chants are done
in a similar manner then sit quietly for 2-3 minutes. Compare the before
and after voice, noting the amazing improvement after the exercise.
- Diaphram techniques test how well you are able to breath and sing while
lying in a prone position.
